Judging by the biggest lines I have ever seen at the local movie theater (with many people standing outside in -20 degree weather) I’m going to say alot of people were watching the watchmen. I know alot of people had stuff against it, overall I, however thought it was pretty well done.

People who had problems with the movies must first be broken down into 2 categories before they can be addressed. These categories are people who read the comic and people who didn’t.

Many people who read the comic feel that the movie left out to many details, such as why Rorschach’s  mask isn’t explained and why he got into being a hero, and Nite owl serving coffee while saving people from a burning building. Plain and simple I think they had enough in the movie to make in enjoyable for those of us who read the comic. You didn’t see Nite Owl ll and Silk Specter ll  serving coffee, but if you look closely you can see her putting  a paper cup and a panel back on the wall in the scene afterward, so it was more of a treat for us who read the book while people who hadn’t read it for the most part didn’t even notice this. I’ve read the book if you hadn’t caught on yet.

Now for the people who haven’t read the book. The main issues I’ve heard from these people are that the movie is either too long or that it didn’t give enough background into who these characters are and why they do what they do. The length issue I can see where people are coming from, your almost sitting there for 3 hours, and that can be along time for some people. And as for not really telling the origins of alot of the characters, the book didn’t explain why alot of them decided to put on costumes and fight either (although it does do a better job then the movie did).

Altogether I think it was a fairly good movie. Its not as good as the comic was, but it was still one of the best movies I have seen in awhile.I think they did a good job of balancing putting in enough details to make the comic people happy, but not making it to long to scare normal people away.  I heard the extended edition dvd is going to be much longer, so hopefully that will add alot of the other details us comic guys wished were in there to begin with.

This is probably the first and last time I’m going to review a movie in my blog, but I’m giving it a 4/5, go see it if you haven’t already.
